The Little Mermaid (1989,  G)
The Little Mermaid 5.0 Stars
This movie was the start of Disney's greatest era. It's underwater setting, although in 2D, is a lot more satisfying than in 'Nemo'. 'Beauty' and 'Aladdin' had a lot to live up to after this masterpiece. Sadly you don't see animated movies like this anymore.

A great sequel to an already great original. Like the original it's fun and exciting. The future that is portrayed in this film is dazzling.

Crimes and Misdemeanors 4.0 Stars
Yet another winning film where Woody Allen philosophies about life, death, truth, love and God. Excellent performances from everyone involved, but none more memorable than Martin Landau and Alan Alda.

sex, lies, and videotape (1989,  R)
sex, lies, and videotape 3.5 Stars
Amazing story with flawless acting and directing. There are important scenes that are subtle and thought-provoking. The best thing about the film is how different the four leading characters are, and the best and most interesting character is James Spader's Graham, who is very mysterious.

Steel Magnolias (1989,  PG)
Steel Magnolias 3.5 Stars
Emotional chick-flick that gets quite sad. It's about friendship, despair, heartbreak and hope. Great performances all-round from some excellent actresses including Julia Roberts, Shirley Maclaine, Dolly Parton, Daryl Hannah, and Olympia Dukakis. But the best performance came from Sally Field. Tom Skerritt was also good as the father. One of the better chick-flicks.
