A mixed bag of animation styles provide differing interpretations of Batman - some are better than others but they're all worth a watch. Not quite the prequel to Dark Knight they'd have you believe though.

Series of 6 short films that bridge the gap between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. The animation is brilliant and if you're a big fan of Batman AND animation then you'll probably love this.Personally i'm not a fan of animated stuff so found it a little hard to get into but it was still quite interesting and very well made.

A fine compliment to the Nolanverse, this Batmanime shows us what became of the Narrows, introduces us to Gordon's MCU, and is a far more cohesive whole than the scattered stories that made up the Animatrix. Having said that, though, the Animatrix is better. Certain segments here don't work as well as others, and it feels a bit short. Always a treat to hear Kevin Conroy voice Batman, however. It's must-watch stuff for fans, but probably not of much interest to everyone else. The Deadshot and Killer Croc segments, however, are excellent, and should entertain just about any viewer.

I really hope this "anime companion" sort of thing that hits DVD as the big show hits theatres. More franchises should be looking to add depth to their universes in this way, and as ARGs become a bigger and bigger part of film marketing, I have to think the DVD companion will too, as studios are trying to make their franchises as immersive as possible. Hope so anyway, I love watchin' em.

A cool smattering of different anime styles that is visually entertaining, but the plots aren't exactly Spawn material, even though they are a bit more mature than the many Saturday morning Batman shows.
Definitely worth a watch for Batman fans, but not unique enough as an anime compilation for me to recommend it as a top animated movie. In other words, this ain't no "Animatrix" and this DEFINITELY ain't no "Memories", but it's a cool pastiche, though shittily written.

I actually was a little disappointed with this. Now while the first story in my opinion was very interesting and good but I was disappointed with the main "Deadshot" story. Overall though, a very interesting take on Batman, however I question how this fits into the Nolan continuity.

Fascinating and interesting combination of animated vignettes, focusing on the origins and early development of Batman. The 6 short stories are great fun and very reminiscent of 'The Animatrix' in its varying styles that still hold a thread to the mainstream movies. The voice talent is wonderful and the action is surprisingly brutal. Fans will love it, but most of the rest may find it pointless. Personally, I liked that it's a series of shorts. Perfect for filling in 15 spare minutes six times over.

Six half-baked stories about Batman by various animators with talents that range from fantastic to godawful (the first story in particular).
Rated PG-13 but it constantly flirts with R rated territory due to several gory scenes and alot of swearing.

    Amazing! Truly amazing!!

It is not a movie per say, but a collection of 6 stories from different arstist. I was blown away by the story telling. Eventhough different artist made each story, I followed through each, as the next gave more depth and life to the previous.

The graphic style changed dynamically from begining to end. I have never seen The Batman in this light before. We got to see him as a human, with weaknesses and fear. Both which he learnt to overcome for the greater good.

I guess my favourite was the Dead Shot story and Fighting through the pain!

Animation that didn't really fit the character mired this in less than essential in the Batman to screen mythos. In some cases, the stories had already been told in the vastly superior Batman, the Animated Series and told better. Still, it is a interesting view of the character.

Some of these are just plan ridiculous and a waste of time but others are really good. Check it out just the same if you are a true Batman fan.

As expected of an anthology, it was a bit hit and miss, but 10 out of 10 for effort. It was interesting to see what the anime studios made of Gotham's finest. Batman fanboys will probably not enjoy some of the interpretations of their hero and newbies expecting this to be an Animatrix style introduction/complement to The Dark Knight film will probably leave more confused than when they started. No Christian Bale here folks.

With its highly violent tone and the return of Kevin Conroy as the voice of Bats, it could probably be described as Batman: The Animated Series, with bloodied teeth and a broken nose. A good watch and well worth a rental.

Ahh... promotional tie-ins. The Gotham Knight is about warming up, in every single way. Released a week before The Dark Knight to garner anticipation, to prepare us for the story of The Dark Knight, to get us reacquainted with the characters... hell even this review is a warm up review for The Dark Knight. But I suppose the main issue would have to be, does The Gotham Knight work as an entertaining promotional tie-in? Short answer: yes. Long answer: mostly. The animatrix style cartoon is split up into 6 different segments, each animated, directed, and written by a different staff highlighting a different element of Batman. There's a tale contextualizing how the people of Gotham view him, a tale highlighting how the cops view him, a tale revisiting the Scarecrow, and etc etc. In terms of how the film prepares us for the Dark Knight, it doesn't really. We become familiar with a few characters that pop up in the Dark Knight, and I would be lieing if it isn't a nice feeling to competently know that you're ahead of the curve on opening night when you're already sure what the one gangster's name is. But the storylines established in The Gotham Knight don't really relate to the Dark Knight at all, and some of the characterization, especially in the case of Ramirez, actually seems to hamper the characters established in the Dark Knight later in their contradictory nature. This complaint is what creates, for me, a more welcoming attitude towards the stories that try to bridge the gap between Batman Begins and the Dark Knight. A delving into the Scarecrow gives us some background on everything, and is the one of the six that shines out strongest. Looking at The Gotham Knight as a film, rather than a promotional tie-in, its alright. Boring at times, exciting at some, but never extremely exciting necessarily. The voice acting is solid in some spots, especially the case of Batman, and dodgy in others, especially some weak and lifeless secondary character interpretations in "Seeing Through The Pain." At the end of the day the Gotham Knight is just supplementary, unnecessary popcorn viewing. Its good to kill 75 minutes if you're into animation and Batman, but nothing groundbreaking or particularly killer.

The animation and voice synchronization on the first short were terrible. What is the point of these anime artists doing an obviously American franchise?

I really really really really really really wish there had been more scarecrow. I love that character. He is just so interesting. Something I do have to say is that it is worth it to get the 2 disc version. It has four episodes from the animated series, including Over The Edge which is an amazing episode. Not only that but there is a thing about the villains that shows how each villain was created to help bring out different aspects of the batman. I love it.Now we have proof that the scarecrow is really very close to batman. They both use fear as a weapon and I love it. Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
