''Can Spider-Man come out to play? ''
When bitten by a genetically modified spider, a nerdy, shy, and awkward high school student gains spider-like abilities that he eventually must use to fight evil as a superhero after tragedy befalls his family. With great power comes great responsibility...Tobey Maguire: Spider-Man / Peter Parker
Willem Dafoe: Green Goblin / Norman Osborn
Kirsten Dunst: Mary Jane Watson
James Franco: Harry Osborn
Amazing spider-man.
Saw this on my 18th BD.
watched it loads of times, still do. Spider-Man I can happily leave on repeat all day, a guilty pleasure for me.
It starts with one of the best sequences accompanied by Danny Elfman's score, Sam Raimi has triumphed at portraying Marvel's Spider-man on the big screen.
The upside down kiss between Tobey & Dunst, the last showdown between Goblin, Peter Parker becoming Spider-man, I love it so much.
Granted Green Goblin looks abit like something out of Power Rangers than the guy from the comics but I overlook this, granted Spider-man 2 tops this ace once Raimi gets his footing.
All in all, its blockbuster material and fun, the music and comic aspirations hit me everytime. An ordinary guy who gets great power learns to use it and becomes the hero we all want him to be. Peter Parker and Mary Jane frustrated me the ending but you know she knows deep down. More to come and that for me is why Spider-man is priceless.
A Masterpiece, Class!''Whatever life holds in store for me, I will never forget these words: "With great power comes great responsibility." This is my gift, my curse. Who am I? I'm Spider-man.''
This is the best spiderman so far. The other two are not even worth watching.
"With great power comes great responsibility."
A rather odd thing has just occurred in the life of nerdy high school student Peter Parker: after being bitten by a genetically modified spider, his body chemistry is altered mutagenically. He can now scale walls and ceilings, he has superhuman strength and super-fast reflexes, and he develops a precognitive sense that warns him of approaching danger. Adopting the name Spider-Man, Peter first uses his newfound powers to make money, but after his uncle is murdered at the hands of a criminal Peter failed to stop, he swears to use his powers to fight the evil that killed his uncle. At the same time, scientist and businessman Norman Osborn, after exposure to an experimental nerve gas, develops an alternate personality himself: the super-strong, psychotic Green Goblin! Peter Parker must now juggle three things in his life: his new job at a local newspaper under a perpetually on-edge employer, his battle against the evil Green Goblin, and his fight to win the affections of beautiful classmate Mary Jane Watson, against none other than his best friend Harry Osborn, son of Norman Osborn! Is this challenge too much for even the Amazing Spider-Man to handle?
Review
Whenever a studio decides to do a comic book adaptation, they walk the tightrope of having to please the die-hard comic book fans while at the same time, bringing the story up-to-date and making it entertaining and relevant.
What makes this movie click is top-notch acting, especially from Tobey Maguire (Wonder Boys, Cider House Rules). He elevates the role of Peter Parker from comic book serial to that of a real person, complete with human weaknesses and imperfections. Ebert wrote that his acting is "pitch perfect", and I couldn't agree more. The rest of the cast is not chopped liver either. Kirsten Dunst shines opposite Tobey, and the audience can actually believe that there is a real chemistry between them.
The story is fun, not taking itself too seriously, while at the same time, allowing itself to develop in order to bring the characters closer to the audience.
Special effects are good, but not great. I will say that it is refreshing to see a movie of this caliber invest the time to make the story real. 100% recommended. One of the best of the year, for kids and adults alike.
Mary Jane: Who are you?
Spider-Man: You know who I am.
Mary Jane: I do?
Spider-Man: Your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.
If his web-shooters are organic in the movie, then the web should probably be comin out of somewhere a little more south of the border.
A good initial setup for better things to come. Tobey Maguire makes for a good Peter Parker, he's nerdy and shown not to fit in with the social norms, seeing as how everyone ignores him, except the main characters.
Dafoe works very well, despite his ridiculous costume, as the green goblin, he is easily more sinister without the mask on, but still it shows that he is having a good time.
Green Goblin: Spider-Man. This is why only fools are heroes - because you never know when some lunatic will come along with a sadistic choice.
J. Jonah Jameson is easily the best casted person in this movie, he does everything right for the role. Kirsten Dunst and James Franco also fill out their roles well enough.
The effects are alright, not great, but give a good balance to things. The story provides what is needed, a good origin story for what things are all about. For not having much of a plot besides setting up Parker as Spider-Man, the movie does a good job with pacing and filling in scenes for 2 hours. What is also neat is the use of comic book dialogue throughout the film. Characters all speak in 2 or 3 sentence structures, along with Raimi's fun direction to keep things moving and comic booky. All of this is leading to a better sequel, but this is still a fun film.
Green Goblin: You and I are not so different.
Spider-Man: I'm not like you. You're a murderer.
Green Goblin: Well... to each his own.
Chris Nashawaty's article in EW "Why I Hate Superheroes" made me reconsider how I rated these movies. I realize I do tend to rate some movies too highly even if they are only mediocre just because I love movies. I thought back to watching these Spider-Man movies and realized that I was bored overall too. Nothing about Tobey Maguire's performance really amazed me or connected with me. In fact, it's really hard for me to even tell if I liked one more than the others, so I'm going to rate them all the same.
Me gustó, aunque algo no mje gustó, el hecho que las hacen muy patriotas, muy ee.uu, y no tengo nada en contra de ellos. por eso me gusta más superman, es un superheroe internacional, je.
