Heresy, Gong, Jesus Christ travels from Israel to Gaul (modern day France) which was at the time a digusting country loaded with savages, and his nearest descendent is a French woman? Hm, far fetched, and a idiotic notion if there ever was one.
I love Tom Hanks, personally, I think the story is a big crock of BS, and it lost my attention after it took a cheezy twist.

    "Seek The Truth"

Dan Brown's controversial best-selling novel about a powerful secret that's been kept under wraps for thousands of years comes to the screen in this suspense thriller from director Ron Howard. The stately silence of Paris' Louvre museum is broken when one of the gallery's leading curators is found dead on the grounds, with strange symbols carved into his body and left around the spot where he died. Hoping to learn the significance of the symbols, police bring in Sophie Neveu (Audrey Tautou), a gifted cryptographer who is also the victim's granddaughter. Needing help, Sophie calls on Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks), a leading symbologist from the United States. As Sophie and Robert dig deeper into the case, they discover the victim's involvement in the Priory of Sion, a secret society whose members have been privy to forbidden knowledge dating back to the birth of Christianity. In their search, Sophie and Robert happen upon evidence that could lead to the final resting place of the Holy Grail, while members of the priory and an underground Catholic society known as Opus Dei give chase, determined to prevent them from sharing their greatest secrets with the world. Also starring Ian McKellen, Jean Reno, and Alfred Molina, The Da Vinci Code was shot on location in France and the United Kingdom; the Louvre allowed the producers to film at the famous museum, but scenes taking place at Westminster Abbey had to filmed elsewhere when church officials declined permission.

I remember reading the book a long time ago and as soon as news broke out that a film was in the works, I was so pumped. The book was a good read so I was eager to see how they'll interpret the novel to the big screen. I went nuts over this movie when Ron Howard was on board to direct and he's leading an all-star cast so my anticipation meter reached sky high.

While I can say that I was entertained, it was a bit disappointing in some points. They edited out a lot of crucial and important key scenes that was present in the novel, I know they had to consider time constraints but they should have just wiped out some minor less-important parts in the movie. I guess that's what you get when your anticipation reaches sky high.

Ron Howard does the job of entertaining us for almost two hours and the pace never slows down. The acting was great although I'm still having a hard time with Tom Hanks' killer mullet. Audrey Tautou, one of my favorite actresses, handles her english diction very well and she matches up with Hanks' on screen charisma. Ian McKellen is an effective villain and so is white albino monk Silas portrayed by Paul Bettany.

A masterpiece. An astonishing, brilliant, nail-biting, gripping, fast paced and spectacular edge of your seat thriller. Stunning, thrilling and absolutely breathtaking. It's intelligent, stylish, remarkable and unforgettable. Director, Ron Howard has crafted a beautifully constructed, anticipated and mind-blowing mystery. Tom Hanks has never been better. Ian McKellen is magnificent. Alfred Molina and Jean Reno are teriffic. It's one of the year's most amasing and exhilerating entertainments. It's a total blast from beginging to end that you wont forget. Pure spun gold. An awsome globe-hopping adventure with great chases and twist that you will love right to the very end.

An overblown and over indulgent work that tries for too much in a time frame too small. For what begins as an interesting mystery unravels into absurdity, resembling a jigsaw puzzle that fits together more perfectly and unbelievably than the works from the title artist. Therein lies the films main problem - its pieces - which lie on the floor too many, with not enough notice to focus on their meanings. The film is strewn with interesting concepts and themes, most notable the "Last Supper" scene, but ultimately it seems Brown's need for shock and awe comes at the expense of hard hitting ideas. Too often does the film meander over something it should delve into, and too often does the film twist itself into preposterous proportions. The Da Vinci Code should be something to cause real controversy over the possibilities of realism, but instead we are delivered fantasy of a near insulting nature.

A given rule is that movies adapted from books seldom live up to the quality of the source material. Regrettably, this film was no exception. That isn't to say I didn't like it though, because despite being a bit of a disappointment, I would still place this in the "good, but not great" category. I guess I was just hoping for something a bit more outstanding.

Why is Paul Bettany not listed as an actor in this movie??? He's what made The DaVinci Code great as a film! He portrayed Silas perfectly.
