nice horror thriller movie...it's really not wise to go in a place where you have no knowledge of the native language and aplace that's not found in the tourist map....scary!
This was better than i expected. Decent ride. Some gorey parts on the unrated version may be a bit too much for some.
I have to say this one was a decent horror flick. I normally don't get to watch them, but caught it with a friend on a rainy day.
It was very gory & actually had me screaming in a few parts. I didn't find it to be that scary & the action started almost immediately. It kept you on the edge of your seat, but sometimes the acting was so bad, it was hard to stay interested.
Having it beeen set in Mexico, a place a travel to every winter, it made me think twice about going off on my own to do any history site seeing!
Kind of a weird thriller, considering the evil is talking plants/snake looking vines. Creeped me out & kept my attention.
I expected nothing from this movie and got just that, nothing. So I suppose I wasn't dissapointed. So many things in this movie made no sense whatsoever. It's basically just a stupid hollywood horror movie with good looking 20 something actors with a poorly written script and laughable direction. Completely enjoyable for some but not for me, I need either cheese, gore, or scares in my horror films and this film has none of that.
Not bad. I didnt expect much from this movie. My friend and I needed to see it twice, thats how good it was. The gore is just right and the what the f^ck is just right. GO check it out.
I literally had to look away at parts, especially when the chick was cutting herself all over.
quite disgusting, but I liked it :)
I'm so screwed lmfao
It´s not the most original film I´ve ever seen but this movie is enjoyable, the performances are good and has some great gore escenes. Besides this is not another stupid remake but it´s an adaptation of a book I haven´t read yet.
Another teen horror movie! Did we really need this? The story is not well exploited, and besides the very good special effects, there is nothing stunning or really scary in there. Too bad for the trailer was really promissing.
This movie is really not as scary as i predicted...the movie is actually set on top of the Ruins, rather than inside...and it's about killer-plants...however it didn't bore me at all...it had some scary moments, and one really gory...don't expect too much from this movie...
Allright well this movie wasn't scary but overall it had me entertained throughout, but if ur lookin for a scary movie this wouldnt be right for you.
There were parts that I'd rather have not seen, but I found the characters survival rather intriguing.
This was not bad actually pretty good but damn gory...I thought it was your run of the mill haunted plac mumbo jumbo but it was not. So the possessed happen to be plants and at first I was very skeptical that it would work but it did. The story is simple but it shows how not to behave when you are traveling in a foreign country...see Turistas.
intense but predictable.
I really wanted this one to be amazing but unfortunately it goes with the rest of the suspense gorey films...
A slow building suspense thriller with some memorable set pieces and plot devices.
This film is very reminsent of the story in the movie CREEPSHOW 2 about the kids who swim out to the floating wooden deck in the middle of a lake, just to find out that there is an unexplained creature lurking in the water. (phew...that was one long-a$$ sentence)
Overall a pretty solid thriller with some minor complaints and slightly annoying performanes by the cast.
DVD WORTHY:
Yeah, if your a fan of horror/thrillers in general.
Better than some recent horror movies anyways.
BLU-RAY (Hi-Def) WORTHY:
Hey, if you can afford it...
more power to ya...
All but one thing was good about this movie, but not the story line... i think it could of used more work on and a bit more thought into it. But not bad for a first time director, Carter Smith.
this movie doesnt fuck around. Within the first 6 or 7 minutes, its got gratuitous Jena Malone bikini shots and totally unwarranted stark naked shots of the new love of my life. On top of that, its the best thing Darius Khonji shot since Alien 4 or even Seven, which is kind of messed up to think about since hes one of the best DPs on the planet. Its grim and gory as fuck, like really bleak, but not in a torture-porn way, I mean, there are no cheap shocks, just this great calculated, unrelenting but kind of indefinite tension that hangs over everything in a claustrophobic Lifeboat/No Exit kind of way. Things just keep getting worse and worse and then its over.
decent horror movie, got a bit messy in the middle but still okey. but as usual everyone dies in the end so...
It was reallly good!! My husband even watched the whole thing without putting it down! That's not normal :)
This was different. I liked how the flowers were making the ringing noises and it was creepy to see vines coming out from inside their bodies.
I liked this movie, actually, which was...surprising. It was well-made and lowery, the performances satisfactory(personally, best acting job did Jena Malone, Jonathan Tucker and Joe Anderson) and the storyline was audacious. It was disturbing at times, ridiculous at others, but generally, a good horror movie that deserves some attention, especially from the fans of the genre.
Evil plants?? Oh good Lord! Can't anyone think of anything else?
And Jena Malone has at least a little more talent than this movie could ever show. Good grief.
:(
kinda nasty it was a good movie to watch the only thing I didn't like was that the flowers talked very unrealistic but besides that it was good
Just saw the trailer, looks interesting, however the flixster plot and the pictures and most peoples reviews havent been too good. Im just wondering if they lacked imagination for this movie or what.
I want to watch it tho. >;P'
Freaky. Took me a day to get over the whole plant thing. But good movie. Could have gone without the whole leg part, but otherwise, it was a good balance of gore with fright.

the ending wasent crap they had to do it that way to leave the film open to a sequel beaucase if it does more than reasonably ok at the cinema then they will do another beacause there is loads of places they can take the film thank yiou
**Possible Spoilers if you havent seen it yet**
To anyone wondering about the "sacrifice": There was no sacrifice. The tourists thought at one point they were being sacrificed, but as they explained later, the villagers were only forced them to stay there and die becuase they figured once they touched the plants, they were "contaminated" and didn't want it to spread. They want to keep it contained. That's why they mentioned how they salted the earth so the plants couldn't grow out farther, and even animals and birds learned not to go there. The villagers were not evil villains, they were simply protecting themselves and the rest of the jungle.
p.s. the only problem I have is with the ending - very quick and anti-climactic
Anyone who thinks this was boring isn't looking for a scary movie, they just want gore. It's nice to see a horror flick that doesn't rely on cheap scares or over-the-top gore and kills. The Ruins instead opts for a much more effective slowly growing sense of fear and dread. I'll take something like this over the entire Saw and Hostel series any day.
And ya gotta give it credit for not watering down for a PG13 like so many lame horror flicks these days.
The film delivers several creepy & gory moments that are very effective besides some great performances by the cast. What i didn't get was a good explanation related to the sacrifice & a ending that was totally a disappointment but other that,it was a enjoyable & gruesome horror film.
