While Viktor Navorski is en route to the U.S. to fulfill a wish of his late father's, there is a coup in the Eastern European country in which he lives. When he lands at JFK, he learns that his country is no longer recognized by the U.S. so he cannot enter - and he can't go home either, because all planes to his country are canceled. While waiting in this limbo, Viktor takes up residence in JFK Terminal and learns another definition of home.
Okay first off, this is not Spielberg's worst film ever as some people might tell you. I think "War of the Worlds" is his worst or even the newly-released "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull". Admittedly it is not his best film ever. 'The Terminal' is a film in-between if we're talking about Steven Spielberg's film slate. The dialogue and the script wasn't that bad and I wouldn't consider Tom Hanks' accent as rubbish. The story will hook you from the minute it starts up until the end. Spielberg and crew has managed to balance a fine line between the dramatic parts and the comedic timing without one overlapping the other. Tom Hanks' portrayal as the man from the fictional country Krakozhia was effective in my opinion. His likability as an actor was effortlessly transitioned in his Navorski character.
'The Terminal' is a 4/5
Viktor Navorski:
"Eat to bite... bite to eat, bite to eat, bite to eat,
bitetoeat bitetoeat bitetoeatbitetoeatbitetoeatbitetoeat"
Can't literally say this is a bad movie, but not a masterpiece one either. I was just expecting a lot more from this Hanks and Spielberg reunion since the witty cat-mouse we'd seen in Catch Me If You Can. I've been through some stuffs till I finally shove in the DVD and I got real excited because some of my friends recommended it. And after 2 hours throwing myself, lol on my yellow couch, I am a little...well, not entirely disappointed...i don't know exactly. It's just, I was hoping too much and who can blame me for expecting tons from world's beloved director. But it's my bad, we shouldn't keep the old genius in the same box while he's ready to move forward with his considerable artistic curiosity.![]()
But in some sorts, it has it moments and we can feel the elements of fun. The magic is in that simple story. The magic is in that man with an unvanquishable heart, which is really what Tom Hanks does best. Hanks convincing performance as the innocent and loving Khrakozian somewhat saves the lackluster storyline. We get to symphatize the poor Navorski when them police officers make fun of him. Two stars added for his cool performance.
A sweet and entertaining drama comedy.
Sublime, indeed.
Thurman: "Do you know anyone in New York?"
Viktor Navorski: "Yes."
Thurman: "Who?"
Viktor Navorski: "Yes."
Thurman: "...Who?"
Viktor Navorski: "...Yes."
Thurman: "No, no, no. Do you know anyone in New York?"
Viktor Navorski: "Yes."
Thurman: "Who?"
Viktor Navorski: "...Yes."
The whole statement that America is still the generous land of opportunity and freedom that immigrants have dreamed of for decades wasn't really necessary and to be honest, annoyed me occasionally. Works (I guess) for its entertainment value and Hanks' performance but it still is one of Spielberg's minor works.
First-class enjoyment. A marvelous and magnificent comedy. Smart, heartfelt, brilliant and very funny. Tom Hanks gives an absolutely outstanding performance. One of his best. A cast that has the confidence and charisma to make their characters worth watching. A great movie that shows it serious moments and it's comedic moments and works wonderfully. It's all heart. A breathtaking and extroadinary film. Another classic by Director, Steven Spielberg.
one name r u ready..Catherine Zeta-Jones..;)
If you liked Cast Away, you'll probably like this. Yet again, Tom Hanks spends quite a bit of screen time doing his own thing, only this time, he's stuck in an American airport where he doesn't speak the language. A little sad, a little funny, and with an acceptably ending, I really enjoyed this movie.
ozzum acting...nice one...the word i remember most is
"I wait"...I wait'
i HATED this movie so bad! I hated that no one let him know he could leave! it pissed me off..and I couldnt even watch the rest of the movie cuz It made me so mad!
The Terminal was great. I just loved it. It was a really good movie. I thought it was hilarious how he collected quarters from returning carts!! That was cute.
And I loved how ....he just made it home there.
