Spectacular. A breathtaking and unforgettable thrill-machine. Explosive non-stop action and Wickedly hilarious humor. Amazing special effects with real style. The most astonishing action adventure in years, It's Raiders of the lost Ark colliding with Hollywoods classic monster villians. Hugh Jackaman is teriffic. He's the ultimate hero. This is to much fun at a monster movie for anyone to take. It is a totally awsome movie. You cant get enough. A pure adreniline rush that never let's up.

Van Helsing: There's something down here, it's carnivorous. Whatever it is it appears to be... human. I'd say it's a size 17, about 360 pounds, 8 and a half to 9 feet tall and he has a bad gimp in his right leg and, ah, 3 copper teeth.
Anna Valerious: How do you know he has copper teeth?
Van Helsing: 'Cause he's standing right behind you.
    [shouts]
    Van Helsing: Move!

During the first eight minutes of this movie, you have the start to a well made horror/action/adventure surrounding some of the greatest Hollywood monsters...and then Mr. Hyde laughs maniacally as he climbs Notre Dame and the movie turns into a lot of dumb fun instead.

It's a roller coaster ride of effects and stupidity, but it is also fun. If you've come to see a movie where a man must fight Dracula, Wolfmen, and Frankenstein's monster, then you better be looking to have a good campy time. Better yet, you should listen to the song Monster Mash while watching.

The movie is so over-the-top goofy that it just works well. It's action packed, hilarious, and entertaining.

Hugh Jackman stars as Van Helsing, a monster hunter looking to take out Dracula. He is aided by a very hot Kate Beckinsale (she can't seem to avoid vampires) with a very not hot Romanian accent. Excitement ensues!

This will always been one of my favorite movie going experiences because it was on my birthday, a bunch of us were sitting near the front row and laughing the whole time. We knew the kind of movie we were watching, while the audience in the same theater with us were taking things way too seriously.

This is a dumb movie, but it's non stop fun, and does have some very clever sequences.

One more thing to mention, Alan Silvestri's score for this movie is awesome, giving the adventure theme an epic quality mixed with a little spanish guitar. A great score for a mediocre but entertaining movie.

[Dracula sees Igor poking the werewolf with a cattle prod]
    Count Dracula: Igor!
    Igor: Yes, Master?
Count Dracula: Why do you torment that thing so?
    Igor: It's what I do.

Good, decent movie, despite the fact I REALLY can't stand vampire movies. This is WAY better than Underworld, though. I'm starting to really enjoy Hugh Jackman in movies, and David Wenham as the goofy monk was entertaining.

I found the constant screaming of the female vampires and everything else constantly SHRIEKING got on my nerves, esp. as my husband likes to crank the movies up.

Worth watching, but I'd probably never see it again, lol.

Van Helsing is a fast-paced, computer graphics-laden horror/adventure/fantasy film wherein Universal re-imagines its core stable of classic horror characters. I actually like cgi, I'm not a purist, I love the genres--I'm not looking for realism, and I love fast-paced action-oriented thrill rides as much if not more than I love character studies.
The look of the film is lush, with lots of unusual point of view shots, exotic locations and computer-generated environments. CGI is used extensively for the human characters in the film as well as the monsters--it's frequently employed to enable physics defying stunts and amazing, far-ranging "computer camera" transitions. Van Helsing provides a good argument for such extensive digital assistance, as many of the visuals would be simply impossible to achieve through any other means and substituting some of the creatures with mechanicals, animatronics, special effects makeup and the like would have caused the film to go far over its already outrageous estimated budget of 160 million.

The plot, while not deep on characterization, couldn't be more full of events and action. Combined with the extravagant visuals and quickly changing, sprawling locations, the result is epic in scope. Director/writer Stephen Sommers, who was also responsible for remaking the image of another classic Universal character in The Mummy (1999) and The Mummy Returns (2001) (probably the reason the Mummy is not present in here), begins Van Helsing in a black and white scene that wonderfully recreates the feel of the James Whale-lensed Frankenstein films, including referencing a number of shots, scenes and characters from those classics.
This whirlwind beginning can be almost overwhelming--it certainly is visually--and it takes a moment to get up to speed and catch our breath, but once we settle into the town square of Transylvania, we're enraptured by the story and the pacing reaches a more sustainable level. Although fantastical at heart, the performances from the principle cast members help anchor the film in "reality". Jackman, Kate Beckinsale, Roxburgh, Henley and David Wenham all turn in nuanced performances that imply the depth of character that the film does not have the time to fully explore. David Wenham as Carl, a friar sent to look after Van Helsing gives the comedy edge with wonderful one liners and a constant cheeky glint in his eye.
The wolfman metamorphosis is an incredible piece of special effects, with the victim tearing off his skin to reveal fur and vice versa throughout the change.
Hugh Jackman is incredible and this role shows what a fantastic actors he is. This is truly his film and deservedly so, not that he ever wasn't in my eyes, but this film has now made him one of the industries hottest property!

This is an adventure of a film which all ages will enjoy and I highly recommend it, there isn't time to find fault as the pace will have you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.

Van Helsing could have been a terrifically dark movie and I think nowadays in the post Batman rebbot years, it would have been. Helsing's problem was that it didnt take itself too seriously which is what it needed. Jackman was fantastic as his role however all the other performances kinda fell below parr.

HOW DO YOU FUCK UP THIS PREMISE?!? Young Van Helsing has to take on the Wolfman, the Frankenstein monster AND Dracula- sounds frickin' AWESOME to me! Except instead of Van Helsing, we get a 19th century James Bond wannabe who finds himself in an Indiana Jones rip-off that never even TRIES for horror, or even atmosphere (save in the first, glorious scene). Way to make a brightly lit monster movie, Stephen Sommers- you are dead to me now.

Do not enjoy as much as I thought much publicity in the t.v. And everything but the movie was bad in the end. The effects were almost like some video games and other bad effects where they noticed the assembly lines, the effects of tear franknstein is outdated. Poor saw only once and I do not want to see it fall again.

A subpar action/horror film. The subplot of Van Helsing's & Dracula's deep/long lost connection made me wonder if I wasted my time... I probably did! If you catch it on cable it might be worth it, but if you see it in the theater, unless you sneak in and see it completely for free, it isn't worth it!
