Another wonderful Pixar film, well done in all regards.
Pixar jumps 700 years into the future to introduce us to Wall-E, a robot living on an abandoned Earth who spends his day compacting trash and collecting little things for himself and his cockroach friend.
Earth has become a dump and is no longer inhabited by humans, but Walll-E has been left behind to clean up. During this time it has developed a personality involving his curiosity about all things, which includes his love for the musical Hello Dolly.
One day a space ship arrives, with a little robot, whose name we learn is Eve, being sent out to explore Earth for life. Wall-E befriends Eve, who also has a personality, but before long, Eve is picked up by the space ship, and Wall-E tags along.
Upon reaching an even larger space ship, which is voiced by Sigourney Weaver (who sees the irony?) Wall-E and we the audience learn what has happened to humans as well as the state of technology. However, all Wall-E really wants is to be with a companion.
[introducing one another]
Wall-E: Wall-E.
M-O: M-O.
Wall-E: M-O?
M-O: M-O.
It is a testament to how good Pixar is at telling stories that one can be effortlessly involved with liking Wall-E, a little robot whose expressions are so wonderful. Its movements are so well defined and effective, its amazing. The same goes for some of the other robot characters as well.
The story is ingenious in combining both romance and sci-fi into a great story for all ages. There are of course plenty of subtle sci-fi movie jokes as well to catch throughout. Its also nice to see how Wall-E has influence on almost everything he meets throughout the film. Wall-E brings about change, curiosity, and discovery and its a wonderful thing to see.
Directed by Finding Nemo helmer Andrew Stanton and co-written by long time Simpsons worker Jim Reardon, the movie does a wonderful job at having witty humor, emotion, and a grand adventure feel throughout. The soundtrack by Thomas Newman adds to its wonderment.
Mary: I didn't know we had a pool!
The animation is once again stunning. The whole movie looks great, raising the bar once again, without being eerily realistic. The look of a future gritty and polluted earth balanced against the streamlined, clean looking space ship portion works very well and comes off as something very special.
The sound design is very important as well. There is little spoken dialog during the first section of the film, so it relies on Wall-E's little noises and it all comes together so well.
This whole movie comes together so well. It gave me the great feelings I got from the other wonderful Pixar films, making this easily one of the best films of 2008.
BnL CEO: [video] Because you've been in space the bones in your body have decreased in size and your body frame has increased, but I'm sure a few laps on the ship's jogging track can put you back in shape in no time.
Captain: We have a jogging track?
I loved the combination of 700 years in the future sci-fi with old fashioned music. The music along with the robots' mostly non-existent dialog and physical humor made it a nostalgic look back at silent screen comedians. Some of the music mixed with the futuristic setting, with much to say about our current society, also made me think of 2001: A Space Odyssey! The animation never leaves your eyes bored. The romance between Wall-E and Eve is sweet and touching. The story is worth seeing from the opening credits through the closing credits.
''Directive?''
[Wall-E gathers up some trash, compacts it and spits it out.]
''Ta-da! ''

Ben Burtt: WALL-E / M-O (voice)
Elissa Knight: EVE (voice)
WALL-E is without a doubt one of the most accomplished, most well concieved animated films over flowing with story, emotion and will leave you wanting more and more.
It begins even with a short film of a magician and his Bunny Alex which provides plenty of laughs, then it gets onto the film itself. When we are first introduced to Wall-e, you instantly know in your heart you won't be able to resist his cuteness and lovableness. He collects interesting things from the debris and puts them in his home while watching old musicals classics and recording them on his box. What's also fascinating is that he is solar powered and can also recede into box form, so cute.
Earth has become an inhospitable dump, bristling with rubbish and junk. Wall-e's main function is to recycle materials to rebuild the crumbling remnants of humanities cities. Only problem is Wall-e seems to be on his own, last of his kind. Apart from his friend in the form of a cockroach who provides company.
When a space craft lands on this planet Wall-e gets to meet EVA a white robot sent to find something vital on Earth. What we get is some lovely sequences of her following her directive, WALL-E isn't just an animated film, its one of substance and story, and a love story at that.
When later in WALL-E he ends up on a huge spaceship and is swept alongside hundreds of other robots you just have to marvel at the sheer amount of time that has gone into creating this gorgeous animated film. Not only that but references to 2001 and a robot that even looks like Hal and similar behavior marks as one of the best homages an animated film has ever done. Not only that Casablanca also gets a nod with an iconic song.
It will make you laugh, make you cry in places especially near the end, and make you melt from sheer overload of a masterpiece that surely deserves to win an Oscar for Best Animated film.
WALL-E is perfect and a cheery alternative for this summer, that all the family can appreciate.
The credits I loved which I must mention, and Peter Gabriel's song at the end really added to what was already in my mind perfection. WALL-E concludes like it begins, making you feel good and leaving you breathless.

In a distant, but not so unrealistic future, where mankind has abandoned earth because it has become covered with trash from products sold by the powerful multi-national Buy N Large corporation, WALL-E, a garbage collecting robot has been left to clean up the mess. Mesmerized with trinkets of earth's history and show tunes, WALL-E is alone on Earth except for a sprightly pet cockroach. One day, Eve, a sleek, reconnaissance robot, is sent to earth to find proof that life is once again sustainable. WALL-E falls in love with Eve. One day a massive ship comes to reclaim Eve, but WALL-E, out of love or loneliness hitches a ride on the outside of the ship to rescue Eve. The ship arrives back at a large space cruise ship, which is carrying all of the humans who evacuated earth 700 years earlier. When the auto-pilot computer, acting on hastily given instructions sent many centuries before, tries to prevent the people of earth from returning, by stealing the plant, WALL-E, Eve, the portly captain, and a band of broken robots stage a mutiny. The enchanting tale of a lonely robot's quest for companionship is one of the studio's finest films, an absolute masterpiece that continues Pixar's initial promise to transport us to infinity and beyond. The colours might all be similar in the preliminary stages of the film, but the attention to detail is nothing short of astounding. Every scuff, every bit of dirt, and every glint of light is rendered to a remarkably realistic level.
Arrhh lovely! Can't wait till Xmas, hope to get it for a pressie. Lovely, sweet and adorable, I want one for home!
I have seen a bunch of films and I think this is one of the best movies ever made. I am so in love with WALL-E. The first 30 minutes are some of the best ever put on screen. The animation is beautiful, but the love story is truly timeless.
Brilliant plot a cautionary tale about the ultimate effect of unbridled comsumerism. Addresses the complex issues of conservation and the ecology with out becoming preachy(M Night Shahmaylan take note) sorry for the spolier but in the end our hero does get the girl!!!! Great movie.
This movie is O.K.. There is nothing special about it and is very targeted at 5 and 6 year old. The love story is a bit cliche. Overall a decent movie. Nothing special here.
I loved this movie!! It was so great!! It is wonderful for all ages!!! Anyone will love it!!
