A wickedly entertaining sci-fi thriller filled with explosive speacial effects, teriffic action and mind-blowing excitement.
Ray Ferrier: You keep your eyes only on me, you understand? Don't look down. Don't look around me. I'm taking you to the car and you're gonna want to look around but you're not going to, are you?
How could Speilberg and Cruise mess up a world domination movie?
Entertaining first 45 min, then the movie starts to drag followed by a lame ending and I'm not talking about what happens to the aliens.
Tom Cruise does his best as a simple dead beat dad with an annoying son and Dakota Fanning for his children.
The effects are of course well handled, but I can only take so much alien destruction before realizing that its not as fun as other similar movies.
Also, There is simply no logic in some of the things these aliens do. First there zapping everything and everyone in sight, then they are capturing people, taking random walks inside houses, and spraying goo all over the place.
Technically well done, but the plot is stale and the fun drains out early on in the picture.
Robbie Ferrier: What is it? Is it terrorists?
Ray Ferrier: These came from some place else.
Robbie Ferrier: What do you mean, like, Europe?
Ray Ferrier: No, Robbie, not like Europe!
eeeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhhhhhhhh
Pretty crud. Not much else to say about this one. Poor acting by Tom Cruise and Dakota Fanning annoys the hell out of me sometimes. I mean couldn't they have chosen someone else?? All she does for the whole movie is scream and perhaps says a few lines ..but mostly she just screams.
what contributes to the steven spielberg's popularized recognition is more of his righteous ideology than his cinematic craftmanship. "war of the worlds" is one of the examples to showcase spielberg's diplomatic viewpoints of america and her compatriots as he constantly casts the boy-next-door affinitive tom cruise (and also tom hanks) as the protagonist whose perspcet is shared by the audience in front of screen, just like hitchcock likes to cast jimmy stewart as the everyman.
the storyline of "war of worlds" is widely acknowledged already, a ordinary flawed man is forced to be the savior of his family during mighty catastrophe. and it's permeated with spielberg's trademark of progressive technological usage in cgi. and it's catchily acceptible in p-g 13 rate.
cruise plays a divorced dad who is not revered by his son, and you could hear the voice of grudges against patriachy at various conflicts of father and son, and it's all about how a problematic everyman earns his pride and respect that is utterly conventional stance of patriachic family value which would be idenitified and approved by most americans. and it delineates americans as people of consolidated strength with a well-intended focus, such as the scene the father almost gets absorbed by the alien to save the daughter that touches the victims in the food storage to work together then pull him back. despite the sceneries are gloomily dark, redundant with death but it presents the beautified side of american disposition. the only possible negative scene is the riotous mass try to rob the car of cruise family, but it's reasonably forgivable. and there're lots of parts manifesting cruise's paternal affections to take care of his family as an representative of american everyman, presenting the country in an altruistic light, wouldn't that be an idealized lpatriotism?
spielberg makes his success for his resourceful method to deal with americanism in a positively welcomed perspect, and with a certain degree of depth without merciless mockery. "war of worlds" is surely a patriotic flick, enclosed with a semi-transcendental fable of raindrops purging the worlds as salvation.
Watch the world crumble around us. Follow Ray and his family on an expedition to escape the unknown villains that have invaded their cities. Feel their fear as they run and fight for their lives. The last war on Earth won't be started by humans.
Anyone who critisizes this movie negatively has a really bad taste in movies.
Im not sure why many people didn't like this movie, i mean, IS NOT ABOUT SEEING EXPLOSIONS, OR WAR FOR FUN, people needs to understand that ITS ABOUT THE WORLS DESTRUCTION, PEOPLE RUNNING FOR THEIR LIFES AND THEN TRY TO ATTACK, is not one of those movies for crazy people who wants to see just action, the movie is WAY more artistic than that.
Remember who directed it...
the graphics are awesome but its a little too overrated.
great movie tho.
