INTERESTED
not interested sounds dumb.
I fucking hate Molly Shannon.
A thoughtful, bittersweet, semi-satirical tragicomic. Sometimes a feel-good, others a feel-bad film, like pretty much everything Mike White has written, it works for its honesty and clever blend of the humorous and the sad. It's both a meditation on grief and the extremes that people sometimes go to in order to deal with a sudden tragedy and also a statement that substituting the love of animals is equal to or even greater than spending time with people, which is something I personally couldn't agree more.
Snore.
This is one of the few times I really enjoyed Molly Shannon. I always thought her a one trick pony; but she was simply marvelous in this very different role for her. She plays a lonely but ever hopeful single woman who after the death of her beloved dog "Pencil", starts a slow side into heartache and finding a purpose to her life. There were more than a few laugh out loud moments for me to make this dark comedy quite enjoyable. Great cast of characters with John C. Riley, Peter Sarsgaard, Laura Dern & Regina King.
