Maria Bello, who co-stars in the upcoming sequel film "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor," told SCI FI Wire that she plays a different version of the character originated by Rachel Weisz. Speaking at the Toronto International Film Festival, she said that she dyed her normally blonde hair auburn for the sequel. "Yeah, it's for a film role. It's for Mummy 3, and I love it," said Bello.

"She has the same name, but she's a very different character than Rachel played," she continued. "She's a bad-ass action chick. I had to train a lot. I had to do wushu, a martial-art form, some kick-boxing, swordfighting, rifle training for a couple of months before we even started shooting." Bello added: "It's the role of my dreams. It is just a blast."

Bello will soon join co-stars Brendan Fraser and Jet Li for two months of shooting in China.

    It won't be as good without Rachel. I'm sorry - I like Maria Bello, but I absolutely hate it when they change the actor / actress who plays one of the main characters for a series of movies. (Can't really call them sequels, since the stories are different and not really related.) Better to have killed off Evie in the second movie and have Rick re-marry, than to have an entire character change for Evie. Part of the charming chemistry between Rick and Evie was that HE was the "bad-ass" and SHE was a proper LADY. I want to see this one, but I'll probably wait until it hits the cable movie channels.

    I can't believe Rachel isn't going to be in this third installment. I loved her in the first two! I'm sure this will be good-it just won't be the same.

    I'll give her a chance sure, though I do hate the recasting of a character after two movies have made the face of that character already known.

    Give the woman a chance, I loved her in Coyote Ugly, She practically made the movie. She was hot in Payback with Mel Gibson as well. I have been waiting to see what else Maria can do. If Rachel did not want to come back (Or she could not) that is between her and the studio. I think it sucks since she was cool in the other two Mummy films, but I think that I will get over it.
