After two weeks in limited release, "The Bucket List" has expanded to 2,911 theaters and ended up taking first place this weekend. Bringing in $19.5 million, it's the best opening weekend ever for director Rob Reiner, and the best January debut in Warner Bros history.
"First Sunday," a comedy starring Ice Cube, finished with $19 million and ended up taking second place. The impressive weekend result placed in the top end of projections for the movie.
"Juno" came in third with $14 million, for a new total of $71.2 million. That's better than "Little Miss Sunshine" and on Monday, it will eclipse "Sideways" to become the top-grossing Searchlight title ever.
Universal's G-rated "The Pirates that Don't Do Anything: A Veggietales Movie," one of two other wide releases, pulled in $4.4 million. "In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale," a video game adaptation that opened wide, finished well out of the top 10.
