Box Office: Could Pineapple Express Beat The Dark Knight this Weekend?

Pineapple Express premiered nationwide on Wednesday with $12.1 million, but dropped 50% on Thursday for an estimated $6.35 million. The Dark Knight has beaten Mamma Mia, Space Chimps, Step Brothers, X-Files 2, The Mummy 3, Swing Vote… but will the cape crusader be able to take down the Judd Apatow stoner comedy? Steve Mason is predicting that Pineapple Express will make $28.7 million over the weekend ($47 million for it’s five day opening), while The Dark Knight is eyeing a number somewhere in the $27 million range. The bottom line is that for right now, it is too close to call.

    sadly it will yes. Pineapple Express already made 12 million from its Wednesday release. Should be an even stronger weekend.

    I saw Pineapple Express and it's going to be a disgrace to see it beat TDK.

    Eventually something will beat it. Does that mean that the movie that beat it is better? Probably not.

    I think it just means that Hollywood is churning out some serious bullshit movies that can't beat a third or fourth week movie.

    It says something about the level of movies if someone would rather see one movie three, four or even five times before they saw something else.

    I saw DK three times opening weekend, but only once more since then. I'd rather see something else by now.

    Take "Swing Vote" for example.....surprisingly, very good.

    Pinapple express might beat the Dark Knight at the movie theatre, but theres no way that it will go down as as great a movie Dark Knight is.

    i wouldnt have thought pineapple exrpess would make much money at all, let alone beat teh records the dark knight just made. lol
